This is a brain map about stones, advantages, disadvantages, etc...


The stones are a small pieces of rock of any shape founded in the ground.
The stones are use on construction or monumental architecture specially for beams, lintels and floor support and also to provide a monolithic support.

Some of the advantages of the stones are the durability, adaptability to sculptural treatment and that it can be used in modest structures, on the other hand, it is difficul to cut, quarry and transport.

One of the most cheaper and simplest stonework is rubble, that consist in broken stones, bricks, and other materials from buildings that have fallen down or been demolished. Other example of stonework is ashlar masonry which is the most stronger and is use for monumental architecture.

The best stone bonding is when the blocks are placed so that the vertical joints in one course are not about the joints in the course above and below, like with the bricks...

This came into my mind when I was your brainmap; of course the most primitive stone walls and buildings must have been constructed by using natural boulders found on the ground, but as tools became more powerful, it would also be possible to cut up stones witn more equal sides and regular sizes, and also to produce burnt bricks from clay in the ground,etc.
